Mourning the Passing of The Honorable Jerome Waldie--Statesman and Friend
April 7th, 2009

Northern California lost a remarkable statesman and friend this week with the passing of former Congressman Jerome Waldie of Placerville.

From his service during World War II, to the California Legislature, the Halls of Congress and his continuing advocacy on behalf the people of Northern California and the values that unite us as Americans, Congressman Waldie exemplified the standards of honor, humility and integrity to which all public servants should aspire.

Even after his retirement, Jerry continued to serve our community and our country.  His warm demeanor, his insightful newspaper columns, and his untiring passion on issues ranging from restoring Lake Tahoe to caring for America's veterans, inspired and enriched the lives of all who are proud to call this region home.

I've long considered Jerry both a model Congressman and a trusted friend.  And like so many others who were touched by his wise counsel and compassionate spirit, Jan and I are deeply saddened by his passing.

We ask all of our supporters to join us in keeping the Waldie family in your thoughts and prayers.

A New Year, and A New President
January 30th, 2009

Thank you once again for your tireless support and your thoughtful words of encouragement in the months both leading up to, and following last November's historic election.

We have accomplished so much together, and many have asked if I will run again.  While I have not made any decisions regarding 2010 or beyond , Jan and I remain ever mindful of why we began this journey nearly four years ago, and steadfast in our dedication to help solve the tremendous challenges confronting the community and country we love.

And like you, we were both proud and inspired to begin the next great chapter in America's story with the inauguration of our 44 th President, Barack Obama.

President Obama enters office at a critical time for our nation---with a deepening economic crisis, two wars, and old problems ranging from energy to healthcare in desperate need of solutions.

So together, we can and must stay informed, hold our representatives accountable for the change we demanded in November at every level of government, and perhaps most importantly, to be involved in all matters of community service.

In the weeks and months to come, you can count on me to stay in touch, to speak out on the issues we face, to ask for your help in advancing the causes the have been such an important part of our efforts to create lasting change in District 4 and across America, and to work with you in mobilizing legions of new people to get involved---and stay involved.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Charlie Brown, Lt. Col. USAF Ret.

Thank You
December 3rd, 2008

Today, our campaign for the 4th District officially came to a close.   In conceding an election decided by a razor thin 1800 vote margin, Charlie penned the following letter of thanks to our supporters, and the people of California's 4th District.

Dear Friends:

As you know, on November 4 th a record number of votes were cast nationwide and in the race to become the 4th District's next Representative in Congress...and the 4 th District race was way too close to call.

In the weeks since, our staff, volunteers, and legal team have worked overtime to ensure that every voice was heard in a fair, accurate, and transparent manner---from the canvassing of provisional and vote by mail ballots, to 1% machine recounts and 10% hand recounts by 9 different County Registrars district-wide.

Thanks to the extraordinary work of our local elections officials, I am pleased to report that the high standards of fairness, accuracy, and transparency have been met.  And with the counts and recounts across district four complete, and more than 370,000 votes tallied, the outcome of this election is no longer in question.  Unfortunately, we've come up less than one half of one percent---just under 1,800 votes---short of victory.

So a short time ago, I called Senator Tom McClintock to congratulate him on a hard fought victory, and to wish him well in Congress.

To you, I can only offer my deepest gratitude-for your generosity of time and resources, and your unwavering energy and encouragement.  Together, we have transformed the 4 th District, and lifted this campaign higher and farther than anyone thought possible.

I am proud of the campaign we ran...

Promises Kept--The History We've Made Together
November 3rd, 2008

Together, we've accomplished so much already in this campaign---mobilizing thousands of people from all walks of life and across the political spectrum to create real change in District Four and across the country.

We have made history by making this campaign about something bigger than politics, and we've made a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors in need by devoting 5% of campaign funds towards helping veterans and their families.

Last Friday, together with House of Representatives Veterans Caucus Co-Chair Mike Thompson at his side, Charlie distributed another $40,500 to 9 deserving organizations--bringing the "Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge" total to more than $94,000 for the cycle.

"Promises Kept" has done something no mailer, no radio ad or tv commercial can ever do--it's helped local groups house the homeless, feed the hungry, aid veterans in financial crisis, distribute care packages to soldiers serving in harm's way right now, and helped those fresh off the battlefield transition to civilian life.

Please click here to learn more about this historic program, and our beneficiaries.

Charlie may be the only candidate for public office to make such an historic commitment, but we know with your continued support, he will not be the last.

SacBee Says, Vote "Brown for a New Direction"
October 26th, 2008

Calling for "the 4th District and the nation to find ways out of partisan and ideological gridlock," the Sacramento Bee today became the fifth northern california news publication to endorse Charlie Brown for Congress.

Read the Full Endorsement Here.

Hailing Brown's tireless work ethic and substantive policy solutions on issues ranging from Iraq, to the economy, to the unique regional challenges in District four, the Bee's editorial board summed up the choice confronting voters November 4th:

"...McClintock sticks to ideology; Brown pragmatically puts the nation first."

Solving our Economic Crisis--A Clear Choice
September 26th, 2008

The recent meltdown on Wall Street reminds us all of the high stakes for our economy in this election.

Years of partisan bickering and failed policies in Washington have produced record deficits, record energy prices, skyrocketing healthcare costs, record foreclosures, and rising unemployment.

At the expense of taxpayers, Tom McClintock gets free healthcare, a free government car, free gas, a generous salary and tax-free per diems--whether he does his job or not.   It's not surprising that he's promising more of the same policies that created this mess.

Charlie Brown knows what this crisis means for families that are struggling to keep their jobs, meet the mortgage, fill their gas tanks, pay for healthcare, educate their children, and save for retirement.  And that's why Charlie will fight to restore our economy, create new jobs here in District 4 and strengthen America's middle class.
